Chapter Eleven

Outside of Nepal was a city called Lhasa. It was a town in eastern China. It had no more than five thousand people, mostly Tibetans that had fled Nepal when the Chinese invaded.

Nathan woke from a couple of hours of sleep. He rubbed his eyes, stretched, and stood up. Markus was sleeping in a row behind him. He walked to the cockpit where Jim was in the pilot’s seat.

“Morning,” Nathan said as he sat down beside him.

“Markus decided to get some sleep.” Jim’s eyes were drooping and red. “I never went to sleep after you woke me.”

“Sorry.” Nathan smiled “You want me to make some coffee?”

Jim nodded. “If you can. Thanks.”

Nathan got up and walked back to the small kitchenette in the middle of the plane. As he entered, he saw the coffee maker on the left side. He lifted the top. There was no coffee inside, but there was a filter. He opened a few drawers and found a sealed package of coffee. He threw it in, added some water, and turned it on.

Nathan made his way back to the front of the plane. “Jim, it should be done in a few minutes.”

“Thanks.

Nathan sat down in the co-pilot’s seat. “Why are we going to Nepal? What’s there?”

“Not Nepal. We’re headed into the Himalayan Mountains. Nepal’s just a stopping point,” Jim said. “From what I can see, Markus has us flying into Lhasa.”

Nathan got comfortable in his seat. “So, what’s in the mountains?”

Jim shrugged his shoulders. “Sorry, Nathan, I have no idea.”

“They’re searching for the lost fruit from their world,” Markus said, joining them.

“Morning,” Nathan said.

“Morning!” Markus answered. “Sometime around the area of year zero, aliens came to earth. They helped build earth’s wilderness and plant life. One tree, though, was unique. It bore a special fruit.”

“Like an apple tree?” Nathan said, laughing.

“No, this was a special type of fruit. Jim, did you ever tell Nathan why Jerome left ROSAA?”

“Jerome found out the aliens were feeding on humans,” Jim replied and turned his head toward Nathan. “They need blood to survive. When you hear of people being abducted, they’re not used for research. They’re being drained of blood.”

Markus sniffed. “What’s that smell?”

“It’s the coffee,” Nathan replied. “Want some?”

“Yes, please.”

Nathan made his way back to get three cups of coffee.

Jim turned to Markus. “Why are we flying into Lhasa?”

“It’s where Spike told me to land the plane. You know that. Why did you ask me?”

“Great. Home,” Jim said sarcastically.

Nathan returned with the coffees. “Whose home? Here you go.” He handed them coffee.

“The triads,’” Markus said. He blew into the cup to cool down the coffee.

“What happened to aliens eating people?” Nathan sat down beside Jim.

“They don’t eat people, Nathan. They need to drink blood. Jerome found out and left the company.” Jim sipped the coffee. “Not bad. The aliens never told anyone. They would hunt in secret.”

“That’s why they want to find fruit of this rare tree from their planet,” Markus said, stopping to drink his coffee. “This fruit should stop their thirst for blood.
